What services do we carry out
At present HMCPSI publishes four different types of reports, all of which are public documents:
Reports on the performance of the CPS by geographical location (the CPS is divided into 42 areas in line with the police forces of England and Wales). One example is the recently conducted Overall Performance Assessments whereby each CPS area was assessed over a period of 9 months with each being rated in an 'excellent', 'good', 'fair' or 'poor' category.
Reports on how the CPS handles a specific aspect of its work. Some previously published thematic reviews have looked at domestic violence, child witnesses and cases with a minority ethnic dimension.
Reports written in conjunction with other inspectorates from within the criminal justice system. These reports look at how a particular aspect of criminal justice is dealt with by the different departments and offices involved. Joint inspections may be either thematic in nature or relate to a particular criminal justice area.
The Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate Act 2000 requires that the Chief Inspector present to the Attorney General, who must lay before Parliament, an annual report on the performance of the CPS. This document is published by the Stationery Office.
Please note that HMCPSI is not the complaints authority for the CPS. If you wish to complain about the way a case was handled by the CPS, please view the contacts section of the CPS's own website www.cps.gov.uk |
