HMCPSI’s budget comes from the Treasury Solicitor’s Department (TSol) which was established as an executive agency on 1 April 1996. In addition to being responsible for all financial activity within TSol, the Treasury Solicitor is responsible for financial matters at the Attorney General’s Office (formerly Legal Secretariat to the Law Officers), Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) and residual matters of the Government Property Lawyers following its closure on 30 September 1999.
The financial statements in the annual resource accounts cover all these bodies and have been prepared under an accounts direction issued by HM Treasury in accordance with section 5(2) of the Government Resources and Accounts Act 2000.

HMCPSI pays expenses where staff and board members are entitled to receive them, and those expenses are incurred necessarily as part of their employment. The policy on claiming expenses is set out in the staff handbook.
