Her Majesty's Crown Prosecution Inspectorate

WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE FOR HER MAJESTY'S CROWN PROSECUTION SERVICE INSPECTORATE (HMCPSI)

HMCPSI is the independent Inspectorate for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the principal prosecuting authority for criminal cases in England and Wales.

HMCPSI's achievements, and its high profile within the criminal justice system, reflect the hard work by which the Inspectorate has established its independence from the CPS in October 2000.

HMCPSI intends to build upon this strong foundation by working towards its vision. It's purpose is to promote continuous improvement in the efficiency, effectiveness and fairness of the prosecution services within a joined-up criminal justice system through the process of inspection, evaluation and identification of good practice. In order to achieve this it wants to be an organisation which:

performs to the highest possible standards;

inspires pride;

commands respect;

works in partnership with other criminal justice inspectorates and agencies but without compromising its robust independence;

values all its staff; and

seeks continuous improvement.

Our current publications are available under the Reports section of this site. Please check the What's New section on the right of this homepage to view the latest additions.

For further details on the work of HMCPSI, or to get in touch, please see the Contact section of the site. We are always looking for ways to improve the effectiveness of this site and would be happy to receive your comments.

Please note that HMCPSI is not the complaints authority for the CPS. The Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate Act 2000 does not give HMCPSI the power to investigate the handling of specific cases by the CPS. If you wish to complain about the way a case was handled by the CPS, please view the contacts section of the CPS' s own website www.cps.gov.uk
