HMCPSI (Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate) is the independent Inspectorate for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the principal prosecuting authority for criminal cases in England and Wales. The purpose of HMCPSI is to enhance the quality of justice through independent inspection and assessment of prosecution services, and in so doing improve their effectiveness and efficiency. To the best of our knowledge, HMCPSI is the first independent quality assurance body for a prosecuting authority in the world.
Our current publications are available under the Reports section of this site.
Please check the Recent News section on this page to view the latest inspection reports.
For further details on the work of HMCPSI, or to get in touch, please see the Contact section of the site. We are always looking for ways to improve the effectiveness of this site and would be happy to receive your comments.
Please note that HMCPSI is not the complaints authority for the CPS. If you wish to complain about the way a case was handled by the CPS, please view the contacts section of the CPS’s own website www.cps.gov.uk
HMCPSI works with other criminal justice inspectorates as part of Criminal Justice Joint Inspection (CJJI). More information on CJJI and a full listing of all joint inspections are available on the CJJI website.
